Habits and behaviour are things that we assess, evaluate and enact every day. They are also actions that can be manipulated in many ways - consciously and subconsciously - so it is critical that we keep a close eye on our behavioural patterns and thoughts.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming has become a popular concept in the past few years, and rightly so. We have infinite capacity to create strong and meaningful connections in our brain that can literally fast-track the way we function. We can adjust negative thought patterns that in turn perpetuate detrimental behaviour, whether it be negative self image and reclusive behaviour, substance abuse, or anything in between.
While there are many intricate systems that are designed to literally rewire the way we think and work, they all rely on a common thread that without which, the real problems will never be brought to light: self-awareness and mindfulness of our thoughts - essentially presence of mind - is required to recognize negative and harmful thought processes so that one might begin to approach the process of change.
